The Show Must Go On Tradition
“Come rain come shine, the show must go on!” declares Donald O’Connor’s character in the Hollywood film Singin’ in the Rain.
SM Little Stars 2008 Finalists And, the 24 young finalists of the SM Little Stars got a first hand experience of the famous line when Typhoon Frank hit Manila, and a Storm Signal No. 3 was raised over the metropolis on the day of the show on 22 June 2008.
I texted our Production Manager of STAGES at 5am and she replied that the show was pushing through. So, together with the van driver, the maneuvering from Cubao To Manila was accomplished with continuous twinges of anxiety amidst the rising waters in the streets and the blowing winds.
Surprisingly, when we arrived at Hotel G on Roxas Blvd. at 8am, the parents of the four to six year old SM Little Stars finalists, as well as the children themselves, were raring to go despite the rains.
And, at 6pm at the SM Mall of Asia, a sizeable crowd gathered to watch the little ones compete for the SM Little Stars 2008 grand prizes and the special awards.
Avenue Q The Farewell Run Theatergoers Even though it was not the Spread the Fuzz shows anymore on 22 June 2008, theatergoers started texting me to ask whether the two scheduled shows at 3pm and 8pm were pushing through.
I knew the shows would push through because it would be against theatre tradition to cancel. Nevertheless, I made sure to get a confirmation from Atlantis via SMS.
And so, in between rehearsals of the SM Little Stars, my reply to anxious Avenue Q theatergoers’ queries was, “Hi. Yes, Atlantis has confirmed that the Sunday shows are pushing through. In theatre speak, the show must go on! Thank Q.”
