Kung Paano Maghiwalay Reading

From CCP to Starbucks The partial Kung Paano Maghiwalay cast was moved from the original rehearsal venue of the Silangan Room at the CCP to the Starbucks Harbour Square Mall, where early morning patrons on the Sunday of 15 June 2008 were treated to a hushed down reading of the play.

Well, not totally hushed down really. As expected, there are emotional lines in the script, and as some actors got swept into their roles they couldn’t help their voices from rising a little bit.

The Birth of Kung Paano Maghiwalay Director and scriptwriter George de Jesus related that the play was born from a conversation over drinks between him and Weng Lopez when they were talking about break ups and how it was done by people they knew.

Kung Paano Maghiwalay is a creative narrative that follows the rhythm of the five stages of death— denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.

The Lightness of Laughter George de Jesus III is a writer extraordinaire who is a 5-time Palanca and Centennial Literary Prize winner, so the pathos of the subject has been lightened considerably to the point of laughter, as evidenced by the reading, where the actors couldn’t help giggling and chortling because of the lines.
