Chuckles — SpongeBob SquarePants vs. Squidward Squidward

(From L) SpongeBob SquarePants, Lorna Lopez (me) and Patrick Star

As the SpngeBob SquarePants cartoon series came on the Nickelodeon channel, I settled down to listen to the theme song of my favorite Nickelodeon character.

It’s an interactive song where the kids answer with “SpongeBob SquarePants.”

(sung) Ohh… Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?
“SpongeBob SquarePants!”

My 5 year old nephew, who was watching with me, said instead, “Squidward Squidward.” I turned my head to glance at him.

(sung) Absorbent and yellow and porous is he…
“SpongeBob SquarePants!”

When my nephew answered, “Squidward Squidward,” I realized he wanted to tease me so I mock glared at him for desecrating the theme song with the name of the cartoon series’ “nemesis.”

(sung) If nautical nonsense be something you wish…
“SpongeBob SquarePants!”

We started a game that would have me watching the TV, and then I would snap my head his way whenever he replaced “SpongeBob SquarePants” with “Squidward Squidward.”

(sung) Then flop on the deck and plop like a fish…
“SpongeBob SquarePants!”

By the time we reached the song’s finale, my nephew was giggling at my “affronted” reactions and sang with gusto, making sure his vocals went above those of the TV:

(sung) READY???
(TV) “SpongeBob SquarePants!” (my nephew) “Squidward Squidward!”
(TV) “SpongeBob SquarePants!” (my nephew) “Squidward Squidward!”
(TV) “SpongeBob SquarePants!” (my nephew) “Squidward Squidward!”
AH AHH AHH AH….
