Lea My Life On Stage Concert Reveals Artistic Maturity

I expected technical expertise of the finest caliber, and, yes, there was purity of sound, a finely placed voice that the US-imported microphone was only too happy to transmit through PICC Plenary Hall. What I did not expect was the emotional maturity and acting behind the singing during the technical dress rehearsal on 22 May 2008 of Lea Salonga’s concert celebrating her thirty years in the entertainment industry aptly titled Lea My Life On Stage.

The sheer beauty of her rendition of Defying Gravity from the musical Wicked brought tears to my eyes. I was riveted every second as I watched an artist glow onstage with intensity and intelligence as Lea Salonga squeezed every moment with subtext and intent.

As Lea Salonga sang the modified lyrics of the dramatic song Nothing from Broadway hit A Chorus Line to tell her teenage travails lightly, I also marveled at her generosity of spirit that allows her to perform before her countrymen where some have once scorned and rejected her.

It was a magical night that encompassed a lifetime of beautiful music and artistry. To watch a public performance of Lea Salonga in Broadway in Bryant Park, please visit YouTube.
