FREE Massage or Tattoo at Starbucks Summer Oasis

(From L) Starbucks Therapist Rhea Bustamante and Lorna Lopez (me) at the Starbucks Summer Oasis at Harbour Square MallAs I walked under the setting sun on the roof deck of Harbour Square Mall last 23 April 2008, I was perplexed as to why Starbucks would hold an event in the blistering heat instead of the comfortable air-conditioned confines of the Starbucks Store on the ground floor.

All became clear as I spied the cabanas sprawled on the roof deck top, complete with hanging colorful cloths and pillows that invited reclining, an invitation that was readily accepted by the relaxed guests who were chatting comfortably with their companions as sea breezes wafted from the nearby Manila Bay.

I was immediately handed a cold Dulce de Leche Frappucino Blended Coffee, which I gulped half of in the hopes of cooling down.

Although it was my second time to taste the new beverage from Starbucks, it was nicer to sip the frappucino after having learned from the press kit that the milk caramel featured in the frappucino is a favorite treat in Latin America. (Actually, I’m loving the flavor so much that Dulce de Leche Frappucino has momentarily replaced my usual Java Chip Frap when ordering in Starbucks.)

Starbucks Back Massage Since I worked out that morning, I enthusiastically accepted the offer of a massage. Instead of a hand massage, I opted to have the kinks in my back worked on by the cooperative Starbucks Therapist Rhea Bustamante.

Poor girl. She was sweating profusely by the time I asked her to stop. There were, or rather, are, a lot of little bumps in my back that need working on. (I know I should schedule a massage one of these days. I’ve been putting it off for months since I know it will be a bit uncomfortable and even painful.)

(From L) Ding Bustalino being given a Henna Tattoo by Starbucks Tattoo Artist Eric DoroteoStarbucks Henna Tattoo Next, I plonked myself down for a henna tattoo on my hand, inspired by a helpful member of the Starbucks Marketing Department, Ding Bustalino, who was also having a hand tattoo.

While Starbucks Tattoo artists Eric Doroteo and Rolly Gutierrez bent over our hands, I clarified the mechanics of the Starbucks Summer Oasis.

Do I need to buy the Dulce de Leche Frappucino in order to join the Starbucks Summer Oasis? No, there is no need to buy a Dulce de Leche Frappucino. Just simply drop by the Starbucks stores scheduled for the Starbucks Summer Oasis, and then choose from either a FREE massage OR a FREE tattoo. In order to accommodate all interested Starbucks clients, there will be a limit of 5-10 minutes per client.

Can kids join the Starbucks Summer Oasis? Starbucks has also prepared FREE glitter tattoos for the kids.
