Madonna Decena on Britain’s Got Talent

Simon Cowell Compliments Madonna Decena “For that one act, it was worth coming up here,” pronounced Britain’s Got Talent creator and judge Simon Cowell, who gave the verdict during a backstage interview after the show.

During the show itself, Simon Cowell gave his comments regarding her performance, and concluded, “I absolutely loved it.”

At the end, Simon Cowell was uncharacteristically teasing and charming as he tried to mislead the audience regarding his vote by saying “No,” and then gave a long pause, before finishing, “I’m not going to disappoint you. It’s a yes,” after which Simon gave a wide smile and winked saucily at Madonna.

Madonna Decena in Trumpets The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe I remember Madonna more for her generosity and vivacity when we were together in the ensemble of Trumpets’ production of The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe. She, together with several other girls (including me), shared a huge dressing room on the second floor of Meralco Theater.

Madonna’s space was affectionately baptized Madonna’s Parlor, because she loved playing with hair, and the one thing that a lot of the girls sported during the first run of Trumpets’ The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe were highlights.

So I will forever remember Madonna Decena for giving me my first highlights. However, this was way before highlights became fashionable, so a lot of the girls’ relatives were scandalized by the hair treatment.

Madonna did not charge for her services, and would even provide the materials, aside from forgoing rest to make way for any requests regarding their hair.

Aside from hair, Madonna was also into anything about fashion and kikay stuff, so a chat about clothes and accessories was always fun with her. Her fashion sense translated into the way she took care of her costume and makeup, which was a challenge because her character as an elf in The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe required blue face makeup, a tall hat, a wig, and billowing heavy pants.

Madonna Decena Made Me Cry So when Madonna got teary eyed while mentioning her daughters, tears started rolling down my cheeks, because, I met Madonna when she didn’t have children yet, so my image of her was as a carefree, always smiling, fun-loving individual; which was quite the opposite of the emotionally vulnerable and determined to provide a better future for her two daughters mother that I saw on YouTube.

In fact, she was so far removed from my memory of her that I didn’t recognize her when I first read about her on the Philippine Daily Inquirer. It was only when my sister-in-law, who read another Inquirer feature about Madonna, asked if I ever worked with her in The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe, did I start to think that maybe it was the same Madonna that I knew.

And, only when another person from Trumpets confirmed it did I finally make a full realization that it is indeed the same Madonna.

Break a Leg, Madonna!!! As former Trumpets president Audie Gemora said, “She’s long been ready for such a moment.”

From your former Madonna’s Parlor patrons, “Break a Leg, Madonna!!!” We’ll be cheering for you from wherever we may be! And good wishes too to 10 year old Charlie Green, a half-Pinoy who impressed the judges so much that Simon Cowell christened him a “little star.”
