Harry Potter Contest by Amazon.com Deems Philippines Ineligible
Beedle the Bard Ballad Writing Contest Prizes For prizes, Amazon.com is giving Harry Potter fans the chance to peruse one of only seven handwritten and illustrated The Tales of Beedle the Bard (from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) by J.K. Rowling. Amazon is in possession of the book after bidding for it in an auction for the staggering amount of £1,950,000!
Understandably, Amazon.com warns Beedle the Bard Ballad Writing Contest winners that they will have to wear gloves (to prevent body oils and secretions from damaging the book) while perusing the book in guarded conditions (to safeguard the book and its pages from possible theft and tampering).
Included in the Grand Prize are round-trip airplane tickets to and from London, a two-night stay at a London hotel, an expense allowance and an Amazon Gift Certificate worth $1,000.
Beedle the Bard Ballad Writing Contest Mechanics For suffering’s sake, let us know what are the contest mechanics.
Beedle the Bard Ballad Writing Contest challenges Harry Potter fans to creatively answer one of the following three questions in 100 words or less:
• What songs do wizards use to celebrate birthdays?
• What sports do wizards play besides Quidditch?
• What have you learned from the Harry Potter series that you use in everyday life?
Eligible Countries Piece of cake, you might say. And with gnashing teeth you might snarl, “So which countries are included?”
Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada (excluding the Province of Québec), China, Denmark, Finland, Germany, India, Ireland, Japan, Luxembourg, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Romania, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, the United States (the 50 states and D.C.), and the United Kingdom.
How come only certain countries are eligible to enter? In the FAQs section of the Bard Ballad Writing Contest, the answer to this question is, “Some countries are legally ineligible for these types of contests. We conducted research to determine our list of more than 20 countries, and focused on those countries where there are large English-speaking populations and where laws would permit the contest.”
Which Laws Render Philippines Ineligible?!? Philippines definitely counts as a “large English-speaking population.” As of the moment we probably have even more English speaking individuals than eligible China—totally unsubstantiated, of course, just frustration speaking here.
So which laws have made Philippines ineligible? Which laws?! Which?!?!!

Yes, totally frustrating!!!
Wow, it would be easy to write that, sayang naman. And unfair. I felt exactly the same way when I wasn’t able to watch the season premiere of the Tudors online because I wasn’t from Canada or the US.
