Bb. Pilipinas Criteria Gives Intelligence 10%
Intelligence Merits 10% “For this pageant, 10 percent for intelligence was all that was allotted,” so says Bb. Pilipinas pageant host Paolo Bediones.
Philippine Daily Inquirer has further quoted the pageant host regarding the Binibining Pilipinas beauty pageant and Miss RP World Winner Janina San Miguel, “Beauty of face and figure comprised a total of 80 percent and remember she (San Miguel) won both the long gown and swimsuit competition, which leaves us with 20 percent to be divided evenly between personality and intelligence.
“So no matter how badly she may have performed in the Q&A, she couldn’t have lost much considering she had a huge headstart in the scores.”
Change the Bb. Pilipinas Criteria I am aghast that the criteria is so Neanderthal that it doesn’t merit intangible qualities such as intelligence with a higher percentage.
Put that aside, and look at the duties of a beauty pageant winner. She is required to constantly attend a round of social events and do charitable work. A beauty pageant winner is a hybrid of an ambassador and a fairy tale princess.
Therefore, the organizers should count diplomacy, humor, intelligence, charm, compassion, speaking skills as well as physical beauty to be requirements for this job; thus, if you put 80% into physical attributes, then it’s only logical that you will probably get someone unsuitable for the job.
Corollary to this, it’s only logical that the Philippines will have a higher chance of winning international beauty pageants if we send people who are qualified for the job.
