Asian Premiere of Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Homage to the Terminator Films What’s so reassuring from the first sequence of the Asian premiere of Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles is that there’s an obvious knowledge of the Terminator trilogy, and a fervent declaration of intent to honor these ground breaking films, namely, Terminator, Terminator 2 Judgment Day and Terminator 3 Rise of the Machines.
An examination of the credits reveals that Terminator 1 and 2 director James Cameron and producer Gale Ann Hurd, also from the Terminator series, are part of the writing team, thus, explaining the faithfulness to the Terminator mythology.
Two Female Heroes What makes it even more exciting is the presentation of two female heroes in the series. Sarah Connor is a given given the title, but the choice of the terminator sent to protect John Connor is a female terminator by the name of Cameron Phillips.
Once I knew that James Cameron is involved in the project, the choice was logical since he loves strong female characters; just take a look at his previous works, which bore Ripley in Aliens 2 and Max in Dark Angel.
A Vulnerable John Connor Although The Sarah Connor Chronicles the TV series is set in that period right after the second film, the John Connor in the series echoes the John Connor of Terminator 3 in his disbelief that in the future he will be a hero leading the resistance, in the same way that Sarah Connor was in denial of being the mother who teaches her son everything he knows about warfare in Terminator 1.
The growth of John Connor into a seasoned warrior and the decision to pursue the origins of Skynet are the basis for the series’ future episodes.
On the Bubble However, due to the writers’ strike, Wikipedia reports that Los Angeles Times “categorizes the series as “on the bubble,” a term used to describe series in danger of cancellation, although as of March 7, 2008, Fox has yet to announce the fate of the series. Producer Josh Friedman has said his plans are to incorporate the unfilmed storylines from the remaining four episodes of season 1 into the start of season 2.”
First Season Has 9 Episodes Since Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles made its Asian premiere on 17 March 2008 on the Crime Suspense channel, the remaining 8 episodes will last till the first week of May 2008. To sign the petition for Fox to continue with Season 2, please click here.
