MMDA Theft Prevention (Eye)

MMDA EDSA fences near Ortigas IntersectionIt was with great trepidation that I agreed to meet a client in Robinsons Galleria yesterday 13 November 2007. Just last 31 October 2007, while walking from Robinsons Galleria to the Ortigas MRT station, I witnessed, what I initially thought was a loud lovers’ spat, a cell phone robbery in progress.

After the theft, I surmised from the surroundings that the perpetrator saw an opportunity in the 40 foot gap in the MMDA EDSA fences that was directly in front of POVEDA school.

I further surmised that the thief was lying in wait for his prey in the waiting shed lining the POVEDA wall, when he suddenly sprang into action when he saw a woman engrossed in using her mobile phone.

The part of the theft that I did actually witness was when the woman tried to hold on to her cell phone, but the thief jerked it out of her hands, ran through the 40 foot gap, closely followed by a cohort, and both crossed the northbound then southbound lanes of EDSA, and disappeared from view.

So, yesterday, fearing that these men might become a fixture in what was obviously an excellent location for more robberies, I was relieved when I noticed that the 40 foot gap in the fence had been closed (see image above), thus removing the opportunity to escape, or, at least, making it more difficult to do so.

Under the assumption that the closed fencing is by the MMDA, I would like to say thank you, MMDA!
