Meet the Cast of Into the Woods Manila
Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo as the Baker’s Wife A self-professed Stephen Sondheim Girl, Menchu played the Witch in the Repertory Philippines version of Into the Woods in 1995. Now, she takes on the task of playing the Baker’s Wife, the role that won for Joanna Gleason the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical
Michael Williams as the Baker On the other hand, Michael played the role of Jack in the Beanstalk in the aforementioned Repertory Philippines production. The role was so memorable and Stephen Sondheim’s music so compelling that Michael confessed that he would find himself giving a start whenever it’s Jack’s cue during rehearsals. This time around, Michael takes on the more emotionally challenging character of the Baker
Tommy Abuel as the Mysterious Man Understandably, the press people swarmed around the indefatigable Tommy Abuel during the press con. Tommy will honor the show with his talents by playing the Mysterious Man.
Lynn Sherman as the Witch Lynn has seized the role of the Witch with passion, and is unafraid to ask for help from Menchu who has essayed the role before. Lynn Sherman’s jazzy alto voice will be an excellent counterpoint to the lyrical voices of the ensemble cast, in the same way that her role as the Witch adds spice to the lives of the kingdom’s citizens.
Cathy Azanza as Cinderella Cathy’s vocal prowess as a soprano is perfect for Cinderella, while her comic timing will lend a clumsy charm to the familiar role.
Jamie Wilson as the Wolf and Cinderella’s Prince Jamie seduces and beguiles the female denizens and the damsels in distress of the kingdom in his dual roles as the Wolf and Cinderella’s Prince Charming.
Crisel Consunji and Julia Abueva as Little Red Riding Hood Crisel and Julia are sharing the role of Little Red Riding Hood, which lyricist and composer Stephen Sondheim has rendered to be a pubescent young girl who needs to borrow a basket to bring goodies to her sick granny, and gets lured from the path by the very attractive Wolf.
Joaqui Valdez as Jack in the Beanstalk Joaqui makes a theatrical comeback after almost a decade long absence from musical theatre. Some audience members may still remember him as the precocious Edmund of the Trumpets production of The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe
Incidentally, Joaqui has released his own album entitled Joaqui The Jazzanova Project Album
Madi Nicolas as Jack’s Mother Madi Nicolas will be playing Jack’s mother who keeps her son solidly on the ground since he has the tendency to be “touched.”
Into the Woods Manila Into the Woods Manila will run at Music Museum in Greenhills from 09 November to 08 December 2007 every Friday and Saturday at 8pm.
Into the Woods is being staged in Manila Philippines by Monique Wilson’s New Voice Company, Asia’s pioneering theatre company, through special arrangement with Music Theatre International of New York.
