Greenhills Shopping Center Free Water for Taxi Drivers (Eye)
Standing in the taxi stand line around 7pm on 01 October 2007 meant being eagle eyed to make sure that everyone follows the line. As I got nearer the head of the line, the visual stake out at the taxi stand in Greenhills Shopping Center had the added peculiar episodes of the security guard tapping sharply on the driver’s windows with a water bottle, with the intent of giving the driver the water bottle for free.
Majority of the drivers were startled with the action, and it took some time for them to lower their car windows, and only with great suspicion.
The Greenhills Shopping Center security guards were aggressive in offering the free water bottle to the point of being rude. Although majority received the water bottle the instant they understood it was for free, one tried to refuse by pointing to his own available water.
Thus ensued a push and pull for at least a minute, with the taxi driver grudgingly receiving the free water bottle in the end.
When I was finally ensconced in my own taxi, a comment by my taxi driver gave a clue as to why the Greenhills Shopping Center management may have decided on giving away free water bottles. He said that unless he had a passenger whose destination is Greenhills, he would not go of his own accord to Greenhills.
