Coining Spread the Fuzz
The official introduction of the phrase Spread the Fuzz was on 04 September 2007 through a post of mine entitled Spread the Fuzz on Avenue Q Manila Philippines.
While I was writing the Avenue Q article, it dawned on me that buzz and fuzz rhyme. Spread the Buzz is the more commonly used phrase to denote spreading the word. Wikipedia has acknowledged that Spread the Buzz now includes, “text messages sent via SMS and web dialogue, such as online profile pages, blog posts, message board threads, instant messages and emails.”
Fuzz refers to a type of hair that can be associated with puppets.
Thus, putting the two together means the birth of the phrase Spread the Fuzz.
And that’s exactly what people have done. Without any prompting from me, my info email has been making the rounds by being forwarded, watching the play has become a topic of discussion for some forums, and now people are using the phrase Spread the Fuzz in their own blogs!
My sister also decided to use the phrase to brand our 15 September 2007 2pm Avenue Q show as the Spread the Fuzz show and started using the phrase for all Avenue Q related correspondence (I followed suit).
What I thought would be a one-time phrase has grown to be a lot more.
These are all so gratifying! Thanks everybody!!!
