Avenue Q Manila Philippines Reviews by some of Manila’s Top Bloggers

On the night before opening, 06 September 2007, I invited some of Manila’s top bloggers to watch the final dress rehearsal of Avenue Q at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium at the RCBC Plaza in Makati.
Anton Diaz kindly extended my invitation to three other bloggers, namely Mila Tan, Socky Pitargue and Spanky Enriquez. Thank you Anton! And a great big thank you, as well, to Atlantis for acceding to my request for these coveted tickets despite the fact that it was also a press and sponsors night. Thank you Atlantis (especially to the gracious Director Chari Arespacochaga)!
My only request to the bloggers is that they write a review of the play Avenue Q, with the total freedom, of course, to say whether it’s good or bad. And here they are…
Anton Diaz of Our Awesome Planet, who, incidentally, kindly allowed me to use the picture he took of the group, wrote, “I’m still on an Avenue Q high after watching the final dress rehearsals of Avenue Q last night at RCBC. This is the best musical broadway show that I’ve ever seen since Rent in Manila.â€
Mila Tan of Watergirl advises, “Look out for the wonderful performances that make you pause and think “am I reacting to the puppet or the actor?”, the darn good singing from most of the cast (a few weak links won’t spoil the broth except for the overly picky), moments of feeling transported back to childhood/young adulthood/actually most of life’s roller coaster moments throughout the show, and laughter that won’t stop till that last encore.â€
Spanky Enriquez of Manila Boy declares, “This definitely is the MUST-WATCH theater event of 2007. IT WILL REALLY SUCK TO BE YOU if you miss it!!!â€
Socky Pitargue of Tennis and Conversation observed, “Because life was depicted through puppetry, it became twice/thrice removed from our realities. We could then laugh at our sentimentalism, bigotry, racism; even find the punch line in our pain and dashed hopes. Nothing like puppets, too, to mock our fixation on sex. Frontal nudity and copulation were never this funny.â€

Thank you so much! We would really appreciate that!
Can’t wait! Me and my life-partner will be watching this Saturday
Hi Margareth,
I hope you’re watching the 2pm show. That’s ours.
I visited your site and found it fascinating. I love sci-fi and fantasy. May I request that you let me know when there’s another convention? I would love to see all the costumes and take pictures and ask questions, etc.
Thank you,

Finally! I’ve been in love with the songs from this funny, witty and outrageous musical for the longest time. I even had this “Avenue Q” phase — you know, listening and singing nothing but Avenue Q songs.
Anyway, when I heard that Frenchie will be doing Christmas Eve and Aiza will be Gary Coleman, I said, “Perfect casting!” But Rachel as Kate? Rachel is an excellent singer but her voice is a little raspy. Not quite Kate-like. All my apprehensions disappeared as soon as Rachel started singing. She’s a competent Kate and an outstanding Lucy.
Frenchie is just a bundle of energy, perfect comic timing and talent. And she sounded better than the one in the original cast recording.
Congrats to the entire cast! What an amazing display of Filipino talent. Will you do a repeat please?
I thought I wouldn’t be able to watch the rerun of Avenue Q because of tight schedules in the office. But someone gave me a ticket as Christmas gift for the last show date – Dec 23!
Avenue Q songs area favorite especially during peak hours in the ofc. And when I saw the play, I had goosebumps during the show. I was singing along with them. It was AMAZING! Ganda talaga ng blending! Love it, love it, love it.
