The Little Blessings — Death by Decapitation and the Taxi
As soon as I stepped off The Fort Bus last 15 August 2007, I staggered a little bit from the force of the wind. My trepidation turned to worry as I had to struggle against the gale of the sweeping wind just to take the necessary ten steps to take shelter inside the nearest building.
Knowing I had to grapple with the elements all too soon, I ascertained from the security person the direction of my destination. As soon as the wind slackened in its wake, I surged through the glass doors.
However, the wind resumed its forceful intensity after a few seconds. I could hear a multitude of sounds that made me glance wildly about, and, to my horror, realized I was surrounded by construction sites for soon to tower buildings, and one of them had flapping metal sheets.
I prayed, “God, please do not let me die by decapitation from a flying I don’t know what…”
God heard my prayer, so I survived to do a meeting.
Getting out of The Fort was another story altogether. The same powerful wind, now accompanied by hurtling rain, was mocking me in my helplessness to begin the trek back home.
I sat in the building’s lobby in the hopes that the wind and rain would abate soon.
The sight of the familiar white car teased me with its possibilities.
Then the taxi actually turned into the building’s parking entrance to yield its passenger.
Off I rushed and without further ado plunked myself down in the back seat of the taxi and declared, “Sir, hulog ka ng langit (Sir, you are a gift from heaven).”
That earned me a trip to the MRT Ayala station. Thank you, God!
