Around Metro Manila via LRT & MRT

MRT Cubao to MRT Guadalupe I was only supposed to have one appointment yesterday, 16 August 2007, near Robinsons Pioneer, and, you guessed it, I missed my station. For the first time, I went on the pedestrian crossing over EDSA in Guadalupe.
MRT Guadalupe to MRT Boni I had to go back northward one station in order to get back to MRT Boni, where I alighted for the first time. Yesterday, 16 August 2007, marks the day that I have officially alighted in ALL the MRT stations.
MRT Boni to MRT Cubao Done with my task, I was on my way back to MRT Cubao when I received a SMS requesting for a meeting in Manila.
MRT Cubao to LRT 2 Recto Alighting in Cubao, I went through Farmer’s Market and Gateway Mall to get to the LRT 2 Araneta Center-Cubao station. Incidentally, Cubao is the only place where the MRT and LRT 2 intersect.
LRT 2 Recto to LRT 1 UN Alighting at the terminal station of Recto, I took the walkway to LRT 1. There I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the pedestrian crossing that was in the process of construction for months and months was finally done.
At long last, there’s no need to go down to the street level of Taft and be bombarded with the overwhelming street clutter in the form of jeeps and whatnot in order to go to the southbound side.
And, for the first time, I alighted in the UN Avenue LRT 1 station. Another first on 16 August 2007!
LRT 1 UN to LRT 1 EDSA At this point, I had also received another SMS for another meeting in Shangri-la Mall. So after the Manila meeting, I boarded the LRT 1 in order to go back to the MRT, which intersects with the LRT at the EDSA station.
MRT Taft to MRT Shaw Northbound I went, and I alighted at the MRT Shaw station, which is connected directly to Shangri-la Mall.
I had a pleasant leisurely meeting over a very late lunch at Mongkok, which served pretty good Chinese food, albeit the service could be much better.
MRT Shaw to MRT Cubao Going home at last after traipsing over Metro Manila, a feat I would not have been able to do if I had driven a car.
Armed with stored value cards and gliding on the railways over the metropolis is the way to go…

Barring power outages, taking the MRT is the way to go during the rainy season when regular roads are flooded and jammed with vehicles. I was able to make my BodyBalance class in Greenhills yesterday only because the MRT from Quezon Ave. to Annapolis-Santolan took me less than 10 minutes.
Hi Noelle,
That’s so true. The heavy downpour and the resulting flooding and traffic jams were major incentives for me to use the LRT & MRT
