The Little Blessings — Internet and the Tricycle
Internet Aftermath At 9.30pm last Sunday 05 August 2007, after having just finished uploading on YouTube the re-edited version of the High School Musical Onstage at the Meralco Theater Video, I found out that the car wouldn’t start. Due to the fact that it was a late Sunday night, I was in a desultory mood that was hard to break. My brain waves were definitely on slow mode.
The Tricycle at Mini-Stop Think, think, think, I said to myself.
The sight of the tricycle terminal beside the Mini-Stop 24 hour store near the Internet café sent me loping across the street.
The first tricycle driver I approached actually knew of a mechanic, and off we went careening through the streets.
The Mechanic and his Young Son The mechanic was willing to cut short his Sunday evening, and he and his young son saddled up to go with us back to my safely parked dead car.
Family Ties That Bind After having declared that the battery had discharged, the mechanic suggested to do the old push and “kadyot (I’m not sure if the spelling is correct).”
Since I’ve never done it before, the mechanic volunteered to do the honors. He harnessed two of his young cousins who were passing by to do the pushing, and off he disappeared into the darkness with my car.
There was a possibility, of course, that my beloved car and I have parted ways at that very moment, but, the mechanic’s anxious young son was beside me, so he sort of became a human version of a collateral.
Home Sweet Home An unfortunate event brought a series of fortuitous events that landed me back in my own sweet home.
