Koine Theater Foundation in Virgin Labfest 3

I dropped by the rehearsals of Koine Theater Foundation for their upcoming play Mga Obra ni Maestra, which is part of the prestigious theatre festival Virgin Labfest 3.

Virgin Labfest 3 is touted as the venue for unproduced, untested, and unstaged scripts by promising playwrights, and is fast gaining a reputation for on the edge and daring plays.

Mga Obra ni Maestra is written and directed by PALANCA award winning playwright and Koine Theater Foundation founder Niel de Mesa, and will be part of a trilogy from the children’s play program.

Starring Koine Theater Foundation scholars, Mga Obra ni Maestra will showcase three of their most promising teen actors who have all been trained extensively in voice, movement and acting. It is quite remarkable to learn that these young actors are considered to be from the underprivileged sector of society, and yet have acquired the skills that make them so confident onstage.

Boasting of anime influences, Mga Obra ni Maestra will run this weekend 29-30 June and 01 July 2007 at 10am and 3pm in the Bulwagang Amado Hernandez at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

For a sneak peek of Mga Obra ni Maestra, watch the video above, which will hopefully excite you enough to head on over to the theater this weekend.
