Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards 2007 Preview Party Pre-School Kids

I was determined that all the age groups be represented in the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards 2007 Preview Party, including the unpredictable bracket of the pre-school kids. I was fortunate enough to find a wealth of talent in Trumpets Playshop Children’s Theatre.

Alexa Catral the Superhero I spotted Alexa during Goosical rehearsals as having a fine line for movement, thus, I chose her to introduce the Angel Locsin sequence wherein she subdues her enemies like Aang the Avatar.

At first, Alexa was hesitant to move, but when she saw how adults went flying whenever she moved her hand, she gleefully went about throwing everybody.

Angeline Martinez as a Modern Vaudeville Artist Angeline caught my attention when I noticed that she knew all the lines and lyrics of the Goosical script.

Angeline immediately got the blocking and concept of the John Lloyd Cruz sequence, wherein she acts as a human cane to pull out an overstaying actor to backstage (host Lesley Leveriza), just like in the old vaudeville acts.

Angeline’s challenge was to get over her fear of the robot, with whom she has to act, because she was not used to seeing one.

Not only did Angeline conquer her fear, but she also demonstrated how much of a pro she is even at such a young age. When her sequence was up, we searched frantically for her, only to find that she was already waiting quietly in the downstage wing for her cue.

Gio Ballesteros the Gentleman Gio Ballesteros focus and leadership qualities were strongly apparent that I chose him to be the gentleman to escort the lovely Anne Curtis onstage.

The Anne Curtis sequence is also my tribute to the ABS-CBN series Maging Sino Ka Man, wherein we tried to recreate the scene where John Lloyd “Eli” Cruz catches the flying kiss of Bea “Jackie” Alonzo, albeit with Anne Curtis and Gio Ballesteros.

As soon as Anne Curtis exits, Gio brings the captured kiss to his cheek, and then he’s supposed to jump for joy.

Gio was also a fast learner and consistently did his part with great confidence.

Congratulations Alexa, Angeline and Gio! Bravo kids! Pat yourselves in the back for a job well done!
