Pantene Wet Paint Rag Vandals Fracas

MMDA Warning Against Commercial Advertisements and Gretchen Barretto for Pantene of Procter & GambleIronically, or maybe even deliberately, the fracas started with black paint splattered all over the Pantene ads lining EDSA on a Black Saturday. The Most Beautiful Women, based on the Preview Magazine December 2006 issue, had an unwanted film of dark paint decorating their pristine facades.

Pantene of Procter & Gamble acted quickly and had the damaged tarpaulins down by Easter Sunday.

A couple of days later, the faces of Gretchen Barretto, Ruffa Gutierrez, Angel Locsin and Dawn Zulueta, have been replaced by tarpaulins soliciting information about the now dubbed Wet Paint Rag Vandals by texting or calling 0921.6703344

On 25 April 2007, a new tarpaulin from Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) joined the fracas. It stated:

WARNING
BAWAL MAGLAGAY
NG ANUMANG ANUNSIYONG PANGKALAKAL
(COMMERCIAL ADVERTISEMENTS)
BILLBOARDS
SIGNAGES
AT IBA PANG BAGAY
SA DAANANG PANG PUBLIKO
PUBLIC ROADS
MMDA ORDINANCE
NO. 96-009
BLDG. CODE – SIGNS
CHAPTER 20
IRR – RULE V

Now, one wonders whether this MMDA ordinance banning any commercial advertisements on public roads existed before the Wet Paint Rag Vandals Fracas or came into existence because of it.

Thanks so much for the link. I still can’t get over the fact that the culprits were sanctioned by MMDA
