Ten Titas Restaurant Cinnamon Palitaw (Ire)
The picture of the Cinnamon Palitaw (native rice cake) looked intriguing in the Ten Titas Restaurant menu with its brown color, which I assumed to be due to the cinnamon, a spice that is brown in color.
However, the four pieces of palitaw arrived with its usual white color, totally unlike the one pictured on the menu.
When the waitress was asked as to where the cinnamon was, she replied that it was already mixed in with the sprinkled sugar on top, which, to me, was barely discernible by eye and taste.
A conversation with Supervisor Marissa Oreste clarified that the Cinnamon Palitaw’s color was due to the paldo (unrefined brown sugar), which is usually served with the native rice cake, and not because of the cinnamon.
The talk also enabled me to make the observation that the Cinnamon Palitaw picture in the menu was misleading, at which Ms. Oreste made the suggestion to put cinnamon on one palitaw so that I could taste for myself whether I liked it that way.
The cinnamon was definitely more discernible this time around, so I eventually requested that the remaining three pieces of palitaw be done in the same way.
