The Little Blessings — Starbucks Receipts and Spark Hope Stickers
Lounging idly on the couch as my sister bought the Starbucks drinks during a first time visit to Starbucks Coffee located at the Auto Mall Bldg. in Julia Vargas Pasig on 28 January 2007 made me oblivious to the little miracle happening right under my very nose.
It all started with my sister’s silent query to God, while she waited in line, as to how she’s going to fill up the almost bare Spark Hope card that will entitle her to a Starbucks 2007 planner with only four days left till the deadline.
As she made way for the customer behind her by easing to the side while the barista finished signing her Spark Hope stickers, she was startled when the total stranger offered to give her his group’s receipts so she could get more Spark Hope stickers.
Gratefully, she accepted the receipts, and then brought our ordered drinks to the table.
After that, as we were sipping our tea, another total stranger approached, and informed her that his group (different from the first one mind you) would like to give her their receipts too.
It seems they were in the same long line that she was, became aware of her predicament and kindly took it upon themselves to help out.
And, as the barista filled out the necessary details on the Spark Hope card, he commented how rare it was for people to give away their stickers, rare as in almost never; and here my sister had nine Spark Hope stickers obtained, as Blanche Dubois from Tennessee Williams’ Streetcar Named Desire would say it, through “the kindness of strangers.”
Plus the two stickers we had for our drinks, that makes for a total of 11 Spark Hope stickers in one Starbucks visit, which means that my sister only needs four more to complete the Spark Hope card, a feat that’s definitely attainable by 31 January 2007.
To all the nameless, kind and generous strangers from that Sunday night, by some miracle, I hope you get to read this and know that we are indeed grateful.
Furthermore, we can only marvel how a simple question put to God was undeniably answered in such a marvelous way.
