Repertory Philippines Theatre Season 2007
Moose Murders Wild Moose Lodge becomes the scene of a murder, and soon develops into a whodunit play. Opening Repertory Philippines 70th season, it’s currently running and will have its last performance on 28 January 2007. (While surfing, I curiously came upon an infamous play of the same title that was lambasted by New York Times critic Frank Rich, and closed after one performance at the Eugene O’Neill Theater.)
Song and Dance Although lesser known than Andrew Lloyd Webber’s more famous works, Song and Dance is nevertheless courageous in its staging with the first act, Tell Me On a Sunday, being entirely sung; while the second act tells its story completely through dance. Bernadette Peters won the Tony for Best Actress in a Musical when she opened this play on Broadway. The musical is set to begin on 09 February 2007 and will play until 04 March 2007.
Gay Birds Probably the most familiar of all the season’s plays, Jean Poiret’s comedy of cross dressing and hidden identities was made popular by its film adaptation, which starred Robin Williams and Nathan Lane as the gay parents of a straight son who attempts the tumultuous first meeting between his family and his fiancée with her conservative parents. The hilarity begins on 16 March 2007, and will run until 01 April 2007.
Glorious The failure to reach the proper notes or pitch did not deter real life opera singer Florence Foster Jenkins from pursuing her dreams. Discover how this impressive woman became the darling of New York as she gloriously triumphs in her Carnegie Hall performance. Set to debut on 13 April 2007, the inspiring musical continues till 29 April 2007.
Cinderella Following the tremendous success of Walt Disney’s Aladdin Jr., Repertory Philippines stages another Walt Disney classic, Cinderella, to delight the children from 11 August 2007 to 16 December 2007.
Love’s Labour’s Lost Another foray into the famous Bard’s works, Shakespeare’s Love’s Labour’s Lost will be brought to life on 15 September 2007 till 07 October 2007.
Fiddler on the Roof The classic musical that brought Junix Inocian into the forefront of Philippine theatre, Fiddler on the Roof will cap the Repertory Philippines season from 10 November 2007 to 16 December 2007.
All the plays are going to be shown at Rep’s Globe Theater, Onstage, 2nd floor, Greenbelt 1 Mall, Paseo de Roxas cor. Legaspi St., Makati. Show times are 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and 3.30pm during Saturday and Sunday matinees.
