Shopwise Araneta Shelf Fillers and Baggers Foul Language (Ire)
At 9.50am today, 17 December 2006, I found myself talking to the head of training of the Shopwise Araneta shelf fillers and baggers. Basically, I said that in the 45 minutes that I was buying my groceries within the premises, I observed that it seems part of the culture of the Shopwise Araneta shelf fillers and baggers to converse with each other in a very informal way by using the Tagalog invective ‘Tang ina ’pre’ (Your mother’s a whore) within hearing of clients.
I heard one shelf filler say it as he passed me by while conversing with a stationary shelf filler, and the second time I heard it was when the bagger of my groceries conversed with a walking by shelf filler.
Manny, the head trainer, asked if they were wearing white or dark blue shirts.
When I replied white, he explained that these two Shopwise employees were trainees, and he reassured me that he has already warned the trainees that this type of ‘kanto’ language is not acceptable.
My parting shot, aside from requesting that he repeat his instructions to the trainees, is that it’s early, it’s a Sunday, it’s Christmas, and the phrase ‘Tang ina ’pre’ is not what you want to hear initially so early in the morning.
