Volkswagen Beetle in Baguio City Philippines

Vintage Volkswagen Beetle

Literally, every minute driving in Baguio City’s streets will mean a visual encounter with the Volkswagen Beetle, a throwback to the 60’s, from the elegant version pictured here to different colors that run the full range from violet to sky blue to white, not to mention in various states of restoration.

Not to worry, the kids will be totally in sync because of the recent remake of Disney’s Herbie Fully Loaded featuring young starlet Lindsay Lohan. One might even play the game of Spot Herbie to distract them from the inevitable onset of car fever.

Why would such a classic auto be so popular in Baguio City you might wonder. My guess is the car’s basic construction makes it a very attractive vehicle for Filipinos living in the cool climes.

Unlike most vehicles now that has the engine in front and separate from the main body, the Volkswagen Beetle engine is at the back, which means that if you sit at the rear, you will directly feel the heat emanating from the engines, the same heat that will probably permeate the insides of the whole car, making it toasty warm for the driver and his passengers.
