A Click Against Child Pornography on the Internet
“We don’t need your money, we just need your support,†so declares a child near the end of a TV commercial that informs of the alarming rising rates of child pornography on the Internet.
Somewhat reassured about the non-inclusion of money, I went to the Light a Million Candles website, and arrived at the page with the invitation to enter. A click started the uploading process that takes you to the “Light Your Candle†page.
In the Light a Candle Page there is an illustration of a room with the million candles, some lit, some unlit. You are then instructed to choose one marked as unlit (with the letter x) and light it.
While choosing your candle, there are facts scattered across the page that lets you know about child pornography stats. The most shocking to me was the rise by 1,500% of child pornography on the Internet.
To complete the lighting, you click the ‘Submit’ button. You are also requested to give your name, country of origin, email-address and any comment you may have.
Not to worry, if you do not wish to divulge your personal details, in whole or in part (like I only listed my name and country of origin but not my email address), you may still remain totally anonymous and submit.
The last page is a thank you page with the number of the candle lit. Mine is 896,722.
The clicking is probably connected to something that will generate funds for the movement. I have no idea who the organizers are, but on the chance that there will be something done about the child pornography on the internet, I went and clicked for a second time # 921,982 candle.
