Protect the Red Cross Emblem

Red Cross SymbolBecause of my gratitude to the wonderful Philippine National Red Cross, I’ve always been attracted to any T-shirt or bag that featured the famous Red Cross symbol. So it was to my great dismay that I read the Protect the Red Cross Emblem posters that are in the LRT and MRT stations.

It read, “P.D. 1643 and the Geneva Convention authorize only Red Cross Personnel and AFP medical units for the exclusive use of the Red Cross in times of peace or armed conflict. Unauthorized use or imitation for safety, medical, fashion or other purposes is prohibited and punishable by law.”

Oh dear, it’s a good thing that I never actually bought the T-shirt or bag that I saw with the Red Cross emblem.

But, just in case you do see it being used in other ways other than for official Red Cross purposes, please report it by calling the Philippine National Red Cross Headquarters at 527.8384 to 96 or email your account to pnrcnhq@redcross.org.ph

I suggest the email process because even if you do call, they’ll probably request you to write the report for paper trail purposes.
