Disney’s High School Musical Auditions for Philippine Staging
STAGES is in need of male and female actors for the August 2007 run of Disney’s High School Musical at the Meralco Theater. Auditions are slated in November 2006 for tweens (10-12 yo), teens, and young adults till 22 yo.
STAGES Production Specialists, Inc., which staged Footloose last year starring R & B Prince Jay-R and Myx VJ Iya Villania, impressed the Disney Theatrical Productions and Music Theatre International (MTI) bigwigs and nabbed the coveted musical that has been sending the tweens and teens worldwide markets into the stratosphere.
Disney’s High School Musical is a cross between Grease and Romeo and Juliet. In one magical night, Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez found themselves singing together in a karaoke party and discovered that unmistakable spark of attraction.
They separated, only to find out that they are going to study in the same school together where Troy is an established figure as the high school basketball superstar, and Gabriella is a recent math genius transferee from another school.
Troy and Gabriella encourage each other to try out for the high school musical, an act that sends everyone into a frenzy as expectations and the status quo are sent into a tailspin.

Auditions for “High School Musical,†open to Trumpets Playshoppers
The country’s leading multimedia workshop provider Trumpets Playshop
and STAGES are calling all Playshoppers to audition for the most
anticipated local staging of the hit Disney musical, “High School
Musical,†on April 11 (Wed.) and 12 (Thurs.), 6 to 10 p.m., at the
Podium Mall, Ortigas Center.
The audition is open to all past and current Trumpets Playshop
students, 14 to 20 years old. Hopefuls must prepare a song (minus one
or piano accompaniment) and a dance number.Please bring colored
photos.
Trumpets Playshop and STAGES’ production of “High School Musical,â€
which will be mounted at the Meralco Theater starting this June, will
cast young heartthrob Sam Concepcion as the musical’s male lead, Troy
Bolton. This will be Sam’s big stage comeback after the hit “The Lion,
the Witch, and the Wardrobe,†which was staged four years ago.

Director Audie Gemora has announced that Sam Concepcion will play the role of Troy Bolton for the STAGES version of Disney’s High School Musical.

I saw Vanessa Hudgens on MTV singing and dancing in her own video. She played Gabriella in the TV version of Disney’s High School musical.

For the Asian premiere of the stage adaptation of Disney’s “High School Musical,” opening in February at the SM Megamall Theatre, open auditions will be held for lead and ensemble roles on Saturday, November 25, at 3rd floor Gonzaga Fine Arts Theatre (G306), Gonzaga Building, Ateneo de Manila University, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Those auditioning must be 13 years old and above, and must be able to dance, sing and act. Prepare two Broadway songs and a 2×2 photo. Please contact Andrei at 0915-8894779 for more information.
The creative team is headed by director Chari Arespacochaga, who recently directed the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning drama “Doubt” starring Cherie Gil and was assistant director for Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” starring KC Concepcion and Karel Marquez for Atlantis Productions. She also directed “Footloose! The Musical” and “Merrily We Roll Along” for Blue Repertory.
Also in the creative team are choreographer Daniel Cabrera and musical director Felix Rivera. Disney’s “High School Musical” is being presented by Blue Repertory, in cooperation with Cebu-based producer Hendri Go of Little Boy Productions.

According to Oliver Oliveros, the publicist of STAGES, the Philippines Disney’s High School Musical auditions have been moved to March 2007.

I called up to ask about the performance dates and reservation fee, but Ms. Tes Bolneo said the details are not yet available because they’re focusing on the auditions first.
