Ongpin St. Welcome Arch- One of the many welcome arches in the Chinatown district of Binondo, Manila, this one in particular is the one leading into Ongpin St., a major artery passing through Chinatown and holds some of the most intriguing sights and experiences for anyone.

Binondo Church Entry- According to the Lonely Planet, this octagonal structure dates back all the way to 1596. It stands at the corner of Ongpin St., and therefore, makes a good landmark if you’re coming from the north. Enter its cool confines and be momentarily transported into another era.

Binondo Church Interiors- The interiors hold the mandatory statues of saints and paintings on the ceilings. At the time we dropped by, the church was being prepared for a wedding, so there were more flowers than usual.

St. Lorenzo Ruiz Statue- Technically not on Ongpin St., one can see the first Filipino saint’s statue in the plaza as one exits from the Binondo Church, so may as well gaze upon it.

Four fire trucks are parked in binondo Church. And yet, the Eliong Fire incident happened where 5 persons perished. Eliong is located less than 100 meters from Binondo Fire Brigade.
What happened?? What lessons can be learned?
