Starbucks 12 Nights of Christmas Tradition
An invitation to a musical performance at either Starbucks Rockwell or Starbucks Eastwood City left me perplexed since I didn’t have any inkling that musical acts can be found at any Starbucks location.
I managed to get to Starbucks Eastwood City on 21 December 2006 and found George Gabriel providing vocals and percussion, Dennis Contreras playing the violin superbly and Conrad Mananes ardently singing while accompanying himself on the keyboards.
A conversation with Starbucks Eastwood City manager Mr. Ryan Garcia clarified the continuance of a new Starbucks Christmas tradition that started last year.
Christened as the 12 Nights of Christmas, the young Starbucks Philippines tradition began this Christmas 2006 on 13 December 2006, wherein for the next 12 nights a different handpicked Starbucks branch will have a musical act that will regale its clients with acoustic music or chorale music.
Aside from strengthening the Starbucks concept of the Starbucks store as being a third place, aside from work and home, for its clients to spend their time in, the musical acts proved to be an effective means of increasing foot traffic and sales for the 12 chosen Starbucks branches that have participated in the 12 Nights of Christmas event.
An additional activity the night that I went to Starbucks Eastwood City was sampling of the different coffees that are part of the Spark Hope fundraising project, as well as some Starbucks delights such as the spice loaf and gingerbread cookie.
A perusal of the Starbucks website showed that events are localized by nature, so that different interests worldwide can be addressed, and the activities can be as diverse as gay pride parades to fun walks to habitat home building.

Hi. Speaking of localized events, Starbucks Harbour Square Mall near CCP in Roxas Blvd. Manila will be having a Coffee Seminar on 23 January 2007 5-6pm. The speakers will talk about How to Make Coffee, How to Store Coffee, How to Brew in a Coffee Press, etc.
Dearest Lorna,
Would you believe, I only found out about this from my officemate? I was not aware that anyone had written about that magical night. Thank you so much for being there.
Hi Conrad,
You’re very welcome. I sent a link to George so I assumed he forwarded it to you guys. I’ll “scold” him next time I see him.
Hehe…
