Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Movie Casting
There’s no mention yet of Ralph Fiennes returning as Voldemort, but it has been reported that Gary Oldman is currently in negotiations to reprise his role as Sirius.
Probably more familiar to the younger generation as the mother of Charlie in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, or being the voice of the bride in Tim Burton’s The Corpse Bride or Lady Tattington in Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were Rabbit, the Room with a View star, Helena Bonham Carter, will be playing Bellatrix Lestrange, Sirius’ own cousin who, ironically, kills him while battling in the Death Chamber.
This wonderful surprise had me scurrying through the Internet, particularly CBBC, to find out who else has been cast. I was utterly delighted to find that Imelda Staunton has said yes to playing the dreadful Dolores Umbridge, the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, without even reading the script. The children might find her performance as Mrs. Blatherwick, the frightful cook in Nanny McPhee, to be in keeping with the villainous casting, but I remember Ms. Staunton more as the totally engaging nurse opposite Gwyneth Paltrow’s ‘Juliet’ in Shakespeare in Love, which won for Ms. Paltrow the Oscar.
Newcomers Robbie Jarvis will be the young James Potter, with Susie Shinner as Lily who captivates him, as well as Evanna Lynch as Luna Lovegood. Veterans of film and stage will lend their support to the new Harry Potter film, such as Royal Shakespeare Company actress Sian Thomas as the Head of the Magical Law Enforcement’s Amelia Bones, and George Harris, an actor whose filmography includes films such as The Dogs of War and Raiders of the Lost Ark, as Auror Kingsley Shacklebolt.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will be released on July 2007.
