Fitness First Instructor’s Non-Dismissal for Sexual Harassment (Ire)

I believe that my complaint is not the first, but only one of many in X’s teaching history.

I am aghast that management would allow such an unprofessional instructor to sexually harass its clients through verbal sexual innuendoes. I am disgusted and disturbed by his behavior, moreover, when he seemed unperturbed when I personally told him that I think he went over the line and wrote a Hey Manager card about his behavior last 29 March 2006.

The fact that Fitness First is a service oriented business should mean that its clients should be its first priority, and not “giving a second chance” to its instructors as Ms. Sanchez said in a phone conversation on 19 May 2006, nor waiting for “someone that was sexually harassed” to come forward, as Ms. Sanchez wrote in a SMS on 25 May 2006. The latter gives me the impression that Ms. Sanchez is unaware that sexual harassment may take the form of both verbal and visual, aside from physical.

I would like to believe that Fitness First operates with an eye for following its own stated standards.

Yours in fitness,
Lorna Gay Lopez

Really confused na bakit di pa nila tinatanggal yang instructor na yan…why? Think of what’s best for the company and clients…not the other way around. Bad for business yan!

Mr. Richards, the company policies are clear re sexual harrassment. You must have a different view of the issue or it’s an issue you deem not important enough to take a closer look. Let ’s check the professed company values which include Ethical Behaviour, Integrity and Honesty. Would you say that X is an example of a professional instructor who exhibits these values? I wonder how, when as a teacher he resorts to sexual innuendos as a habitual way to speak/instruct/teach paying members?

To the members of Fitness First, both male and female, you can put a stop to this. If you feel that it’s too much trouble, it is not. There are better ways to inspire and relate to people. Unless this person is in the sex trade, why tolerate a teacher in the fitness profession who uses sexually-laden tones as a way to do his job?
