Email Principal Re Filipino-Canadian Schoolboy’s Usage of Spoon and Fork (Ire)
The furor over Filipino Canadian Luc Cagadoc’s habit of eating with a spoon and fork has elicited a response in the form of a letter from the school board of Ecole Lalande, the school that Luc Cagadoc goes to.
Excerpt from School Board’s Letter
However, a disturbing excerpt from the letter that was signed by Pierre Jette, Executive Director, and France Pilon, Assistant Executive Director for Pre-school Education and Primary Grades, reads as follows:
“The CSMB (Commission scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeoys) would also like to use this space to support the principal, the staff and the school team of Lalande primary school in Pierrefonds/ Roxboro, who have been overwhelmed in the last few weeks by the turmoil caused by the way an educational intervention involving a student during the noon lunch hour was handled.
“The CSMB must also point out that the educational intervention in question was not aimed in any way at the practices of any cultural community. It was strictly limited to the way a child was consuming lunch on that particular day and had nothing to do with the way of eating or the utensils used.”
Although CSMB also reassures its constituents that it respects the culture and practices of its diverse population, the excerpt clearly shows where the school board’s loyalties lie.
