Additional 48 MRT Trains Soon to Ply the EDSA Route
More Space
Aside from helping with coping with the increased number of commuters, the additional 48 trains will also help sway car owners to ride the MRT, especially those who have to regularly go to Makati, for one of the biggest turn-offs of the MRT is the ‘squeezed in a can of sardines’ feeling when one is forced to ride an overcrowded car.
If you’re used to your personal space, as I am, this can cause a certain level of quiet insanity. (What I do is time my traveling in non-peak or semi-peak hours, or going the opposite direction from the commuting crowd.)
Electronic Payment Ticketing Scheme
With more trains going to and from the stations, the traveling time is going to decrease even further with the advent of the electronic payment ticketing schemes. With this system, tickets can be bought through the commuters’ mobile phones, which will then be put near the card readers (Remember those blue contraptions on top of the MRT turnstiles with the picture of a mobile phone?), and automatically read via radio signals.
This will shorten the ticket purchase process considerably, eliminating the need to line up, ordering from the counter person, putting in and getting (if stored value) the ticket, etc. Commuters can enter and exit the terminals much faster, which leads to added convenience and faster turnover.

I think Japan also donated trains to the LRT 1 line. The trains can be easily spotted because of the shiny silver metal body. On the inside there are logos of the Japan Official Development Assistance
