Mobile Phone Etiquette — How to Avoid Giving Out Your Mobile No
Options So, what do you do if an insistent newly made acquaintance wants to get your number? May I present several options?
Change the topic. Every time the person asks for your number, deliberately change the topic. After doing this several times, the person in question should get the hint.
Create an excuse to leave the immediate vicinity. “Oh, excuse me. I need to talk to…” And then walk away to another part of the room, far far away, to avoid any more insistent queries.
Ignore the request. Continue the conversation as if the mobile phone inquiry was never mentioned at all, giving the silent message of your unwillingness to give out your personal details.
“I’ll get it from…” Mention a common acquaintance’s name and leave it at that.
“Give me your number.” Make a show of taking down the other person’s number.
“I’ll give you a missed call later because I’m low batt right now.” And if the person still insists on getting your mobile number even after you’ve taken down his number, the “low batt” excuse should stop him in his tracks.
NEVER give out a false no. Most likely, the false no. will be somebody else’s mobile number, so please do NOT take this course of action.

Or maybe Jacquelin was sending texts blindly to random numbers and seeing if she could get anyone to bite…
10man, that scenario is possible.
However, 5 days later, there was a follow up text from another mobile. I’m thinking it came from a friend of Jacquelin, who asked me if I knew Jervie C______n (won’t type the complete name to protect the guy’s privacy). So I replied as I did in the original text, i.e., “This is not Jervie. This has been my number for 6 years.”
So who is this Jervie C kaya? And i wonder if Jervie is a he or she. I assumed “he” by Jacquelin’s outburst.
