The New Les Mills Body Jam Choreographer
In one Fitness First Philippines branch where the new Les Mills choreography had not yet been launched, one member requested the Body Jam instructor for one more Latin track. His reason? There’s no more Latin steps in the new Body Jam release, and he was going to sorely miss it for the next six weeks when it’s mandatory for all the instructors to teach the latest choreography.
The main advantage of the most recent release is that it will probably attract the male members more because of the deletion of the ultra feminine tracks that have been the stigma of the Body Jam choreography among those belonging to the male gender.
Those who have been brave enough to take it on have been known to vacate the room when some tracks come on, the most infamous probably being “Hey Big Spender,†where even some females have walked out on.
So who is the person responsible for this shift?
His name is Gandalf Archer or “G†for short.
According to DANZnet Magazine, “G†is “regarded as New Zealand’s leading Hip Hop dancer/choreographer,†and has trained in New York, Los Angeles and Sydney. Aside from being a choreographer, he has also performed internationally.
Together with his partner Ginny Crocker, he has developed a hip-hop syllabus that is recognized by the New Zealand Association of Modern Dance.
In the Les Mills website, one also learns that “G†has been part of the Body Jam team since 2003, but as to when he actually became Head Choreographer is not revealed.
For an update of the Body Jam 37 release (The Philippines is late by one release. We’re on Body Jam 36.), check out “G’s†post.
And, Body Jam continues to be an international favorite that it has now become a Virtual Reality Game.
