KFC Excess Change (Ire)

On 29 January 2006, I went to the KFC Shopwise branch at around 10.30pm. Waiting in line, I decided already on my order and prepared the necessary cash. Considering it was a late Sunday evening I was impatient to get home.

At the end of my transaction, the counter girl said, “Your change is Php 94.”

I accepted it and turned away to exit the store. On my way, however, there was a niggling thought bothering me at the back of my mind.

And then I realized what it was.

I suspected that I only gave Php 120, and that my change should only be Php 14, not Php 94.

I had to interrupt the order of another customer in order to converse with the counter girl who was in charge of my transaction. We were both in doubt about the actual amount I gave, but then, she started searching through the cash drawers and came up with Php 100 and 20 bills that she hadn’t separated properly into their respective drawers.

At the sight, I was more or less sure that I did give just Php 120 and not Php 200.

I am thankful that I caught the mistake before I had vacated the store and driven off. Otherwise, it would have been such a hassle to have had to go back, and, I might have been tempted not to go back at all. Well, actually, I believe I would have gone back, but it would have been dependent on when I would have realized about the mistake, and when it would have been convenient for me to go back.

Whichever way, it would have been very inconvenient.
