UncoolRains drove the Greg Behrendt show from the original venue of Greenbelt 3 Park into the Greenbelt 3 Lobby last night 15 September 2005. The 30 minute stand up comedy act, titled Uncool, had Greg revealing intimate moments about his life, and the crowd appreciated his candor tremendously.

His self-deprecating humor had him admitting that he was both anal and forgetful—a deadly combination that would have him questioning his wife belligerently why is there a burrito by the crib, only to be told that he was the one who put it there originally.

Another personal tidbit that he shared was his belief that the final form that a cake took was a miracle, especially when you take into consideration that he was happy just lapping up the batter. The more unappetizing tidbit that he shared was the piece of information about his other favorite dessert—pudding—he reflected that it’s the kind of dessert that you can spit out and engulf all over again.

Greg even noticed already the traffic condition here in Metro Manila, and he described an appointment as a commitment—it takes so long to get where you need to go that you forget why you were heading there in the first place, and you have to give yourself a mental shake to recover your memory, before resolving to continue the long tiresome journey through the traffic.

And then, Greg continued to a discussion about his writing. He mentioned that some people have questioned him why he hasn’t written a male version of his best-selling book “He’s Just Not That Into You,” and his constant reply was it would only sell 8 copies. He believes that men don’t read books to handle break-ups, they get rip roaring drunk.

Then he proceeded to tell the story of how he was so in love with a girl one time, and he knew that he was in that condition because he actually made a mixed tape for her. (Gosh, I never knew that the Broadway musical Avenue Q that has a musical number about a mixed tape being an indicator of affection is true.)

When he heard that she was moving to New York with a boyfriend, he somehow tracked down her hotel number in the City of the Big Apple before getting drunk.

He warned the audience of the dangers of alcohol, particularly tequila, which gave a person the powerful need to say things to a former lover that very instant. That night, he called the hotel but he was so drunk that he couldn’t even pronounce her name properly to the hotel’s reception staff, causing him to spell it out instead.

Greg BehrendtThe receptionist, before putting him through, asked him if he really wanted to make this call. In the short period it took him to mull over what decision to make, he passed out. Till today, he’s still grateful to that unknown man for helping him out in his moment of personal crisis and avoiding a potentially embarrassing may I forget it ever happened incident.

He reiterated how much he loved his wife, his two daughters and his life before capping it with a reminder that he has another show on 16 September 2005, which promises to be more focused on his book, and, therefore, I think, will turn out to be even funnier.

National Bookstore was selling his book, “He’s Just Not That Into You,” at the lobby at 20% off, so from P499 it went down to P399. Greg Behrendt will be signing a limited number of copies after his show. You may get a book signing pass starting at 11am.

If you’re ready to brave the pay day weekend crowds, then pass by the Greenbelt 3 Lobby tonight at 8pm and catch Greg discussing the travails caused by women’s misconceptions and ignorance about the male psyche.
