Disney Chicken Little at Learning is Fun
On 02 September 2005, the Learning is Fun booth at the Manila International Book Fair became a crowded scene of children and adults as they danced and played with the Greetings 2Go group.
Learning is Fun has been a pioneer in the book selling market with their unique style of direct selling. By focusing on their products and their dealers, and doing away with extraneous marketing tools like advertising, they are able to lower the prices of their books. This strategy has enabled Learning is Fun to bring the joys of reading to more Filipino children.
Greetings 2Go
In their commitment to reading, Learning is Fun asked me to direct a show for their stint at the annual Manila International Book Fair.
Putting together a 20-30 minute interactive show using the Greetings 2Go quartet of musical theatre performers, the group grabbed the children’s attention with their upbeat songs and dances, as well as the numerous prizes being given away.
Starting off with an invitation through the song “Get Up and Dance,” Greetings 2Go got everybody’s attention and sent flocks of children scurrying through the aisles hurriedly to the Learning is Fun booth.
Being the sole distributor of Disney’s soon to be released movie—Chicken Little—the next part was a game of trivia questions led by Louise Fernandez of Greetings 2Go. Partially, the children were introduced to the different kinds of animals that are going to appear in the movie such as Fish Out of Water, Runt of the Litter, and, of course, Chicken Little. The children who answered correctly received books and crossword puzzles, which delighted their parents and teachers.
Continuing the focus on Disney, Christian Velarde and Jaizee del Rosario distributed ribbons to the children, which they used to accompany Gerald Yranon as he sang “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from Disney’s The Lion King. Once again, prizes were given away to some lucky children as they proved to be enthusiasts of the activity.
And then, it was time again to familiarize the children with the Disney Chicken Little characters by asking the gathered children to dance the Chicken Little moves. Ably led again by Louise Fernandez of Greetings 2Go, the happy children received Chicken Little shirts that were hot off the press, as in these lucky kids will be the very first ones to proudly display the still yet to be sold shirts.
Tapping the children’s abundant energy, Greetings 2Go finished the show with a dance set to the tune of the well-loved Celebration, a fitting end to Learning is Fun’s celebration of reading and books.
