Support Sun to Lower Globe and Smart Rates

The market shift to Sun Cellular in the telecommunications industry seemed to have galvanized the two giants—Globe and Smart—to offer new promos to entice consumers back to its fold. Thus, there is a proliferation of ads that proclaim Globe’s and Smart’s varying versions of unlimited texts and calls, or, at the very least, lower call rates.

So far, no offer has come close to beating the fantastic deal of Sun Cellular’s 24/7 unlimited texts and calls of P350/month or P100/7 days, or the new Daylite service.

Economic Laws

Sometime January, a friend suggested, “Let’s buy Sun Sims to force Globe and Smart to offer lower prices.”

His comment is supported by the laws of economy, which state that as more suppliers enter the market to meet the demand, prices will consequently go down. (I can still remember Prof. Monsod, or Kumare, as she is more popularly known now, lecturing about the very same thing, which was taken up in the most basic of Economics classes in the University of the Philippines—Econ 11.)

The present situation is a perfect example of how natural forces are at work. Sun Cellular entered the scene, slowly started chipping away at Globe’s and Smart’s market shares until it gained a solid foothold, and made the two giants respond by attempting to crush the competition that Sun presented.

Smart and Globe are greedy and that behavior is really irritating. Think… All these years we are paying 1 peso per text without knowing that it is possible and they would still earn by giving unlimited text or calls or both packages to prepaid and postpaid subscribers. And they also tried to file a lawsuit against SUN. damn them. With regards to SUN’s reliability, I believe that’s understandable since they’re still building their networks and towers to provide better service. SMART and GLOBE would have faced the same thing if there are same number of people using cellphones nowadays when they started…
