Fitness First Hey Manager Card (Eye)

A sign at the Fitness First Philippines Greenhills branch’s cycling room reads, “Please be informed that the Cosmic Cycling Room will open only during class hours. This is to ensure that the members who have numbers will be given priority in attending the class.”

This sign and the lock holding the doors closed were responses to a Fitness First Hey Manager Card.

Hey Manager Card Description

Just in case you’re a Fitness First member and you don’t know about the Hey Manager Card, it’s this piece of paper that you can fill up to report any positive or negative incident that occurred in the gym. It’s usually on display at the reception desk, or you can ask for one from the receptionist.

On one side, you’re asked for personal details such as your name and contact number; while on the other side, you’re asked to measure the incident in terms of your emotional response to it.

Since Fitness First is UK based, the responses are in phrases that are very English in nature, starting with impressed, pleasantly surprised, satisfied, a bit miffed and mad as hell. You have to check one and then you’re asked to explain why.

The Cycling Class Number

The sign was sparked by an incident when my friend was second in line to get his number for the cycling class, yet when he got his number and proceeded to the cycling room, it was to find all the bikes filled with personal belongings, leaving no room for anybody else. He was incensed at how effectless the system was. What’s the use of giving out numbers when they don’t mean anything?

On his behalf, I spoke to the person in charge of the classes and wrote a Hey Manager card as well. As he promised, there was a lock and a sign thereafter on the cycling room doors.

Italliannis Tarpaulin

Another incident yet again demonstrates the effectivity of the Fitness First Hey Manager Card. One day, upon entering the studio of the Fitness First Greenhills branch, I was stunned when I caught sight of an Italliannis tarpaulin featuring a stack of waffles with a mountain high mound of whipped cream and syrup running down its sides.

I immediately asked for a Hey Manager card and wrote that I thought how inappropriate it was for Fitness First to display so prominently an image that was so unhealthy and runs so contrary to the healthy lifestyle Fitness First promotes. I suggested that they ask Italliannis for a tarpaulin that featured a healthier alternative, a salad, for example.

Fifteen minutes later, the tarpaulin disappeared.

What to Do

So if there’s anything that bothers you at the gym, write it down on a Hey Manager card and use the system that Fitness First has provided for its members to give feedback to management.
