Starbucks Precautions Against Terrorism (Eye)
Discovering that the requisite paper cups and water pitcher were absent from the self-service station at Starbucks Pearl Drive became a cause of puzzlement on 23 July 2005. I voiced my question to the barrista who then referred me to their manager Ms. Bunny Sandico.
Ms. Sandico informed me that it is now a worldwide policy of Starbucks to remove such items from the self-service station to counter any attempts of terrorism. Starbucks is concerned that the exposed paper cups and open water pitcher can be contaminated. Although admirable, it does raise the question about the other containers that are still on the self-service station such as the thermoses for milk, for example.
Nevertheless, the fact that Ms. Sandico was aware of the logic behind Starbucks’ change in policy should be appreciated, despite the added inconvenience of having to ask and wait for the barrista to give you your water.
