Powebooks Harry Potter Event at Glorietta (Part 2)
Last July 16, 2005, there were several photo opportunities for Harry Potter fans aside from the Quidditch set-up. Aside from dressing up in the famous red Gryffindor Quidditch robes, my friend and I also pretended to be students in a study room set-up. And my heart swelled as I posed in front of a huge blown up tarpaulin of the cover of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
A booth proclaiming to be Ollivander’s had a tattoo artist instead who put tattoos of Harry Potter’s initials on our arms, as well as a face painter who emblazoned Harry’s face and the snitch on our other arms. The line that proved to be the longest wait was for the Oishi goodie bag because one had to play a game before getting the goodie bag. Everyone got a goodie bag, of course, but if you managed to do the memory game in 15 seconds or put a puzzle together in 1 minute and 20 seconds you got an extra large goodie bag.
Then we perused the Harry Potter dioramas that were on display and guessed which scene it was before reading the identification cards. An interesting rule was only scenes from the five books could be used. Any scene from the movie would be disqualified.

The triwizard tournament scenes were a favorite, while a peephole into one diorama proved to be fruitless because there was no light inside; and there were several unique scene choices such as the arrival of the Weasleys by the Floo Network into the Dursleys’ living room, and Kreacher with Sirius’ screaming mother in the portrait, played by Elizabeth Taylor in this particular diorama.
One of our last stops, strangely enough, was at Gringott’s bank to be sorted into our houses. There was no sorting hat. What the www.pinoyharrypotter.org did was to create a series of multiple-choice questions that would give some insight into a person’s character.
From a small box, I picked the question “Which superhero could you most relate to?” The choices included Batman and Wolverine. I didn’t like the rest so I picked out another question, which proved to be no better because it asked for my favorite poet. I don’t read poetry. The third and last attempt produced a question of which mobile phone would I use. Since I’m only familiar with Nokia, I picked that one out. And that’s how I got sorted into the Hufflepuff House, which I was very happy with because I always thought that should be my house.
Then it was time for the last game. We dove our hands into a box full of plastic balls and tried to snatch the golden snitch within 10 counts. Alas, we lacked Harry’s fast reflexes and came up empty-handed, but we left Diagon Alley with lots of other goodies.
