Powebooks Harry Potter Event at Glorietta (Part 1)
Powerbooks’ event at the Glorietta Activity Center last July 16, 2005 proved more to be than what I expected. An arch proclaiming Diagon Alley welcomed all visitors. Moreover, when we arrived at 11am, we were exultant when we saw there was no line for the Powerbooks’ Harry Potter 6 receipt holders. And we were pleasantly surprised when we were given a small stack of coupons for the freebies.
My friend and I decided to go first for the freebies that had no lines. Our very first stop got us each a large Powerbooks plastic bag that was full of goodies such as a Monster Allergy magazine, Jack ’N Jill Star Pops lollipops, Universal Robina’s Nips candies and Refresh drinks and Oishi bookmarks. This proved to be a good move because we could stuff the rest of the goodies into the large Powerbooks plastic bag.
Our next stop was the freebie identified as “M,” which proved to be a choice of back issues of magazines from Summit Marketing. I chose a Meg magazine from December 2004. Then there was a free donut from Dunkin Donuts, and a free Rocket Blast Popsicle from Nestle, which promised blasting candy nestled inside the ice cream. Well, I didn’t feel any explosions inside my mouth but the Popsicle was definitely fun to eat.
We also had fun searching for the freebie named “Mint,” which we found to be from a roving Listerine girl in a mint green costume. She was handing out samples of Listerine’s Oral Care Strips that I’ve always wanted to try but found too expensive to buy at the supermarket. I was pretty pleased to get one pack for free.
Then it was time to dress up in red Quidditch robes, for the house of Gryffindor, of course. We gamely straddled the hanging broom and reached for the snitch as our picture was taken; and a free copy of it was given to us approximately 30 minutes later.
