Chuckles — Fashion TV and the Filipino Male
Waiting at the counter of the Panasonic Cubao service station, I noticed that all the people around me, who were mostly male, was mesmerized by something. Searching for the cause, I saw that they were all intently watching the cable channel Fashion TV, where models were sashaying down the runway wearing outlandish creations.
I was surprised at their interest and felt ashamed of myself for assuming that the average Filipino male was somebody with no appreciation for fashion.
I told this story to a girlfriend who corrected my impression. “Lorna, they watch because of the girls. They’re not interested in fashion. They’re interested in seeing flesh. Where else can you see breasts almost 24/7?!â€
I was chagrined, to say the least.
