Trumpets The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe

The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe has been done on Broadway and West End, but, Douglas Gresham, the stepson of C.S. Lewis, has openly declared that he feels that Trumpets’ version of The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe comes closest to the true intention of the well-loved tale. And no wonder, for the two are grounded on the same rock—that of Christianity.
Trumpets was the first one in Asia to secure the rights to bring it onstage, and it has done so three times in Meralco Theater, and I have been fortunate enough to be part of the first two productions as one of the three hags (I’m the one standing behind Mr. Gresham).
It’s a very exciting time as the film version of The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe opens in the Philippines on 08 January 2006. It has actually opened earlier in other Asian countries, like Malaysia and Singapore, but I think, in deference to the Metro Manila Film Festival, the opening has been delayed.
The trailer alone has caused frissons of excitement to race through me—the sight of Lucy opening the door, the White Witch on her sleigh, Edmund walking among the Evil Narnians, and Aslan speaking to the children… All remind me so much of the play.
There is a reunion, sort of, of the three sets of Narnian cast and production staff on 08 January 2006 as Trumpets sponsors the 3pm screening of The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe at Cinema 6 of the Power Plant Mall.
Aside from watching the film, the viewer is entitled to a CD of the Trumpets The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe musical, plus, part of the proceeds will be supporting the next big project of Trumpets—Musicademy—the musical counterpart of the ever popular Playshop.
Tickets are available at the Trumpets Musicademy at the 5th level of Shangrila Mall (near Cravings) or please call Trumpets at 636.2842.
I think it will be more fun to watch with a group who are fans of the book because reactions are going to be bigger (What can I say except that we’re theatre people), viewers are going to catch on to the important lines, and the atmosphere is just going to be electric. So come on and join us!
