Measly Meal at S.R. Thai (Ire)
On 23 December 2005, my friend and I went to S.R. Thai to take up the owner’s offer of a free meal. I called up the day before to inform them that we were coming. Needless to say, my expectations of a “free meal” would, at least, be equal to our usual order, or even exceed it, since we were the ones who were aggravated by the Wire Staple Incident.
However, I was erroneous in my assumption, because after ordering, we were informed that we were entitled to only 2 S.R. Thai Specials, which were basically like 2 rice toppings. I requested the waitress to inform Mrs. Apostol that her offer was unacceptable.
After some time, I asked the waitress what did Mrs. Apostol text back, and she said that although the owner hasn’t replied, it was all right. To be sure, I confirmed with her twice that she wasn’t going to charge us.
In the end, I wrote a letter.
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Apostol:
Greetings.
Before the wire staple incident, I have featured S.R. Thai on my website twice in a complimentary way. I did this because I love the food.
Now, being informed that we were only entitled to 2 S.R. Thai specials after experiencing something so harrowing, I am gravely insulted by your offer. I hope you do not charge the waitresses for our meal today. FYI, it is our “normal meal.”
I have already informed Ms. Giron, who writes “The Consumer” in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, about the wire staple incident.
I do hope that you curb such boorish behavior in the event that any incident of the same nature happens in the future.
Sincerely,
Lorna Lopez
