Charged for Unsubscribed SMS Info (Ire)
Watch out for those supposedly free SMS info that you receive daily. You may be charged Php 2.50/text, which can grow to astronomical amounts once you add the fact that these texts are sent several times during the day. My friend experienced this, and it was aggravated by the detail that she was charged another Php 2.50 for every attempt she made to cancel it.
Her situation became even more frustrating when she would receive a SMS informing her that there is no need to unsubscribe for she is not subscribed to receive the service.
Finally, she had proof that her balance was being debited when her credit balance was down to zero and she received a SMS from 2366 stating, “Sorry, we can’t send your requested service as you don’t have enough load. Please try again after you reload. Thanks! ABS-CBN interactive ***END***”
Armed with this SMS, I accompanied her to the Gateway Mall Globe store where Ms. Antonette listened to her tale patiently. Apparently familiar with the situation, she requested for an ID, the mobile number, and the SIM.
Then she submitted a request to cancel the service but warned my friend that it might take effect after 24 hours, i.e., she might still receive the info texts the next day. Moreover, once she returned the above mentioned items, she gave my friend a free Php 300 call card.
My friend and I were pleasantly surprised by the speedy handling of the situation, and the fact that there was no need to demand for compensation for the lost credits during the period.
