What’s Up Last Week #16

Even though I was part of it, I haven’t really been following Encantadia, so I was caught off guard when I was idly changing channels and instead of seeing scenes for the following week I saw the ID of what seemed like another tele-fantaserye, which turned out to be Etheria: Ang Ikalimang Kaharian ng Encantadia, the prequel of Encantadia. Of course, I wanted to support Etheria so I hurriedly wrote a piece about Iza Calzado — Amihan of GMA 7 Encantadia for its world premiere.

And then, there were lots of shows to enjoy last week, from Repertory Philippines Man of La Mancha to Peter Jackson’s King Kong.

For Man of la Mancha, it became unexpectedly a historical moment, given that Audie Gemora and Cocoy Laurel have not acted for Repertory Philippines for several years, and then to see them together with Menchu Lauchengco was truly delightful. I was debating whether to mention their performances, but since the play was in memoriam to Tita Bibot Amador, I decided to focus on her instead.

The program was full of memories as actors and production staff recounted their most significant recollections of what they learned from Tita Bibot. Mine was my first audition for Rep, which turned out to be unexpectedly humorous because of a misunderstanding Chuckles — Clowning Around at Auditions.

Honestly, if it weren’t Peter Jackson at the director’s helm, I probably would have passed on watching the film King Kong. But trusting his creativity and judgment, I made it a point to watch the 3-hour film, and happily, the film is worthy of all the praises heaped on it.

Originally, I was just supposed to herd the children along during the Make a Child Smile Campaign, but Jing Monis unexpectedly found it necessary to give instructions, which he asked me to do, and, from that dry beginning, it became a hosting job to entertain the children, which I gladly took on.

That same skill is being used now during the intermission of the Barney Asia Tour 2005, which has its final 6 performances at the Araneta Coliseum from today till 22 December 2005. Unlike his disastrous first appearance here in the Philippines, Barney’s Musical Castle show is complete with sets and actors, as well as the presence of Baby Bop and BJ.

And, I was so disappointed to find a Wire Staple in SR Thai Spring Roll (Ire), an incident that, thankfully, ended amicably with an apology from the owner. If she hadn’t, I would have found myself not going back to the restaurant and probably even deleting the post Cheap Eats — S.R. Thai Cuisine.

This is a hard time to find the time to exercise, nevertheless, I’ve suggested 5 Tricks to Keep Exercising During the Holidays, and I definitely exhort eating all the goodies that you can during this special season, but, as the experts say, in moderation.
