5 Tricks to Keep Exercising During the Holidays

Since you’ll probably be attending a lot of family, business and friendly gatherings during the holidays, finding the time to work out will be quite challenging.

Change your regular schedule. For example, if you’re used to working out at night, your regimen may be put aside in favor of your social commitments. If that’s the case, then you might want to consider going to the gym on your lunch hour instead so that you get to keep active.

Do shorter higher intense workouts. Time might be a problem, so instead of doing a one-hour workout, you can cut your exercise time. But to make sure you’re still getting the full cardiovascular benefits, you can bring up the intensity by using the stepper machine rather than the treadmill, or do a combination of run-walk on the treadmill rather than just walk.

Exercise near or at home. If going to the gym virtually becomes impossible, why not take a walk around your subdivision. Or invest in a cheap workout VCD, clear a space near the TV and exercise at your convenience.

Have a workout with your friends. Instead of the traditional eating get together with your friends, why not schedule something more active like a bowling party? In that way, you get a workout while chatting with friends.

Sneak it in. If the thought of going to the gym or even working out at home is too much for you, then sneak it in like take the stairs when you have to go to another department in your building, or walk instead of taking the car to that nearby place you’re off to.

So, yes, you will probably lessen the amount of time working out, and maybe even gain an inch or two, but the point is, you just want to continue the habit of staying active to stay healthy.
